Let's Get Started
To reduce the risk of injury user must read instruction manuals for all tools used in this project. Wear eye and respiratory protection. Use clamps to support work piece whenever practical.
First, use your Dremel 3000 with the EZ476 to cut the dowels to the lengths and quantities in the supplies list.
Next, swap out the cut-off wheel with the 125 High Speed Cutter on to the rotary tool, and cut the vinyl tubing in 2-inch pieces. Bore a hole through one side of the tubing ¾ of an inch from the end of the tube. Repeat until all the tubes have been completed. The holes should be just big enough for the dowel rod to tightly fit into the holes.
Then, using the vinyl tubing pieces as joints, slide them to attach over the 36-inch dowel rods, approximately 6-inches from both ends, as shown in the image. You will use 2 vinyl tubing pieces per rod.
Cut the plastic sheeting to 12”x 58”. Use the packing tape to secure 12-inch ends to form a loop. You will need two of these.
Fold the plastic sheet in half lengthwise. With scissors, notch the overlap in the middle and ends to create a hole for attaching your tubes.
Position the 36-inch dowel rods with the joints added on to the inside of the cut plastic sheet. Secure with packing tape. Repeat for all 4 corners, as shown. Hint: It’s easier with a helping hand!
Repeat step 6 and secure the second sheet to complete the outside of the kite.
Insert the 20-inch dowel rods into the vinyl tubing "joints". But be careful! You will need to bend two of the four rods to stretch the outside framework. Secure the crossing of the two dowel rods with tie wraps or wire, as shown. Then, decorate your kite as you prefer. We used spray paint to keep it light and airy. Attach flying line to the middle of the bottom 36-inch dowel rod, and you are ready to fly!
